Kimono Dress-up
Begin your cultural experience by donning an elegant kimono. Your instructor will assist you in the dressing process so you will be comfortable while taking part in the workshops that follow.

Tea Ceremony
Take part in a graceful tea ceremony and learn the basic etiquette along with core Zen beliefs. The master will prepare your tea in a traditional teacup made using clay with sand from Itsukushima Shrine.

Shodo Calligraphy
Enjoy a beginner-friendly calligraphy class and learn to write using brush and ink. Select a Chinese character of your choice and complete your masterpiece by also learning how to write your name in Japanese hiragana. Upon request, you may also choose to write on Miyajima's iconic rice scooper.

  • After arriving at Miyajima by ferry, make your way toward the tunnel.
    Go through the tunnel and turn left at the intersection at the end.
    Continue for about 100 meters and turn right at the end.
    Turn left at the next intersection and you will see the temple where the classes are held.

Known to be healthy and good for the body, Japanese cuisine has been valued highly by many. In this class, you'll learn how to make the popular and tasty onigiri rice ball. Upon request, you can opt to make "higashi" instead, a traditional dry sugar confectionary using high-end wasanbon sugar.

Restrictions

  • Kimonos are available for children over 130 cm (4 ft 2 in) tall. Kimono sizes for adults go up to waist size 130 cm (52 in) for women and 120 cm (48 in) for men.
  • If you have difficulty sitting on the floor, please let us know at the time of booking so chairs can be prepared in advance.
