Advanced Traditional Hand-Dyeing Workshop Kyo-Yuzen Course in a Machiya
starts from
$58Description
While you are in Kyoto, spend a few hours creating a hand-made one-of-a-kind piece of Kyo-Yuzen, or dyed-fabric, and bring home a beautiful piece of art! The traditional art of "Surikomi Yuzen" (Yuzen-style brush dye technique) was created in the mid-18th century and has been the most popular way to dye kimono cloth ever since. The craftsmen of Marumasu-Nishimuraya, a 100 year-old business, will take you step-by-step as you make your own masterpiece. Using paper stencils and ink, layers of color are carefully brushed onto fabric. Designs range from realistic flowers and plants to abstract designs. Sit with the craftsmen as they help you create Kyo-Yuzen pieces, such as noren (curtains) or furoshiki (wrapping cloth).
