Gold has been produced in Japan down the ages and gold leaf pressing has been used to decorate daily tools or architectural structures. It is a simple technique of attaching gold leaves by pressing and a good way to make use of the texture of gold.

Kirigane is a higher level technique of gold leaf pressing. In this lesson, you will cut out a stencil on a special adhesive paper and use it to draw on lacquerware. Then, you will attach gold leaf by pressing on it to bring the pattern into full visibility.
