Half Day Traditional Batik and Indigo Dyeing Lesson in Kyoto
starts from
$39Description
Learn the traditional method of dyeing intricate patterns on cloth, and choose your favorite sketch from more than 200 types or bring your own sketch. You can take your work home on the same day. Japanese batik makes use of a brush to draw patterns in wax, which gives you a subtle nuance like drawing with Indian ink. Draw once again over the patterns you have drawn to make them look solid. When the fabric you draw the pattern is dyed, the wax cracks and the ink permeates through the cracks, making the unique patterns. You use wax of about 150 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is too high, the wax permeates through the cloth, and if it is too low, the wax becomes translucent, which also adds a unique touch to every piece.
