  • Any cancellations made after 11:00 local time, 2 business days prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 100% of the total amount.

  • The activity schedule is subject to change or cancellation due to weather or traffic conditions.
  • You are welcome to stay in Gion to enjoy the night after the tour ends or you may ask the guide to escort you back to Kyoto Station.

  • Please wear appropriate clothing when visiting temples. During the summer, the temperatures will get hot, however, clothing that exposes large amounts of skin such as short shorts, tank tops, and sandals are not permitted on temple grounds.

Enter through the grand Sanmon gate welcoming you to Nanzenji Temple. Stroll through the temple grounds before going on a 20-minute hike up the hill to a waterfall used for meditation for 700 yrs. You can even climb up into the gate that overlooks Kyoto. We will discuss Buddhism and history here.

Walk grounds, building and see how a Shogun ran a Castle. We will talk history here.

11:45:00 Depart Nijo Castle for the famous Nishiki Market

12:15:00 Arrive Nishiki Market area
We will traverse this famous 250 yr-old market and try some local Kyoto Food Vendors. We will also try some yummy Sake here!

12:45:00 Depart Market area for the Pontocho Restaurant District

Walk the district and allow me to familiarize you with the area and point out some places you should come back and try during the evening while you are staying in Kyoto.

We will cover the little known history of the Geiko and Maiko and the history of the Gion area, eventually ending up at the famous Yasaka Shrine area

14:00:00 Depart Yasaka Shrine for East Hongonji Temple by Taxi
Stop by the entrance of Gion before enjoying some free time to stroll through the shops along Shijo Street. Find some historical shops carrying local goods along with modern high-end fashion.

Arrive at this beautiful Temple that holds the distinction of being the second largest wooden Temple on earth and the 6th largest wooden building. We will walk the halls here and talk a little more Buddhism and history.

02:45:00 Depart Temple for a Samurai-founded (Buke Chado) Tea Ceremony

Allow a fifth-generation Tea Master, skilled int he art of Buke Chado to make you some amazing Tea, Japanese style.
