Join a maiko for a lovely time in Kyoto, complete with a private tea ceremony, elegant dance performances, and rare photo opportunities. Chat with the apprentice geisha herself and gain insight into their lives for the full maiko experience.

Cancellation Policy

  • Any cancellations made between 7 business days (00:00 local time) to 1 business days (00:00 local time) prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 50% of the total amount.
  • Any cancellations made after 23:59 local time, 1 business days prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 100% of the total amount.

Make yourself comfortable as you take a seat in the authentic tatami-matted Japanese tea room. Watch the maiko prepare a cup of usucha (light matcha green tea) for you. Enjoy the delightful flavor of tea accompanied by the sweetness of wagashi (Japanese confectionaries).

Maiko Performance
After the tea has been served, the maiko will then perform a graceful Nihon Buyo dance with one recorded music. Requiring years of training, the maiko's dance is punctuated by using her fan and sleeves to bring out the feeling of the piece.

Ozashiki Asobi Parlor Games
Take part in traditional drinking games with the maiko called "ozashiki asobi." One of the games you may play is the popular Konpira Fune Fune that uses a small table, cup, and accompanying song. Two players take turns in moving the cup while playing rock paper scissors to the rhythm of the song.

Some of the maikos speak English; hence, you may take this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the arts, culture, and life of a maiko by asking insightful questions.

Activity Detail

Restrictions

  • Up to 16 people may fit into one room, however there may be cases the room will feel tight or crowded. Please take this into consideration when booking as a large group.
  • Children ages 0-10 may join for free but will not be getting a separate cup of tea or alternate drinks.
  • For groups of 1 adult and 1 child (age 0 to 10), please note that you will be charged the price for a solo traveler.

Additional Notes

  • You may change your drink from tea to beer for no additional charge. However, everyone in your group must switch their drink to beer. Please understand that in the case this switch is made, a tea preparation performance by the Maiko will be excluded.
  • The maiko dance will be performed with 1 recorded song.
  • Please understand that due to high demand, the confirmation process of this activity may take 3 days or more. To prevent late confirmation, please book days prior your desired activity date.
