Go on a two-day retreat at the peaceful and sacred Mt. Koya. Experience a Shingon Buddhist monk's way of life by spending the night in a temple and taking part in morning prayers. Visit several UNESCO World Heritage temples on this immersive tour. Located in the Wakayama prefecture, Mt. Koya is the center of Shingon Buddhism that was first introduced by the monk Kukai in the 800's. Till this day many monks practice Buddhism in the many temples that is used as a house of prayer and lodging to visitors. Mt. Koya and the surrounding towns have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its sacred sites and pilgrimage routes. Take this opportunity to journey through the peaceful mountain and visit the many temples at your own pace.   • Any cancellations made between 20 business days (23:59 local time) to 8 business days (23:59 local time) prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 20% of the total amount.
  • Any cancellations made between 8 business days (23:59 local time) to 2 business days (23:59 local time) prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 30% of the total amount.
  • Any cancellations made between 2 business days (23:59 local time) to 1 business days (23:59 local time) prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 40% of the total amount.
  • Any cancellations made between 1 business days (23:59 local time) to 1 hours prior to the activity start time will be subject to a charge of 50% of the total amount.
  • Any cancellations made after 1 hours prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 100% of the total amount.

  • Please pick up your tickets at Nankai Information Center in Nankai Namba Station (1st floor of Namba Galleria). You may exchange your voucher at the window to receive your tickets.

  • Going from Nankai Namba Station to Koyasan Station
    Transfer from Nankai Namba Station to Koyasan Station on the Nankai Koya Line.
    Limited Express Koya: 80 minutes
    Rapid Express: 90 minutes
    Express: 100 minutes
    Check the time table or the digital destination board at the station to find the train you wish to board. Go through the ticket gates and make way to the third floor platforms.

    Explore Mt. Koya on your own with a handy 2-day bus ticket you can use to ride the Nankai Rinkan Bus.

    Temple Lodging:
    You will be informed with your exact temple to enjoy your meal on the day of your activity. Please note that going to the temple will not be guided and guests will need to go there by themselves.
    Possible temples for lodging: Henjoko-in, Fugen-in, Henjoson-in or similar
    Meal: Shojin Ryori Buddhist-style vegetarian dinner
  • Day 2
    Take part in the Goma Fire Ritual Morning Prayer early in the morning.
    Please note that the morning prayer may not be available depending on the temple you are staying at.
    After breakfast at the temple, spend the rest of your day visiting temples and shops around Mt. Koya on your own with a handy 2-day bus ticket you can use to ride the Nankai Rinkan Bus.
    Return to Nankai Namba Station in Osaka by Nankai train.

Restrictions

  • 2-day free bus pass in Koyasan is valid up to two consecutive calendar days.
  • Infants ages 0-1 may stay for free but will not be getting a separate meal or bedding. Up to two infants ages 0-1 may stay for free per adult.
