Description

Get an up close view of the powerful sumo wrestlers as they practice in the morning. With a helpful guide, go behind the scenes to learn about the traditional training methods, only available for a limited time. Step into the world of sumo with your guide to discover the traditions and rituals that go on during their training sessions. Take this great opportunity to enter the practice session normally closed to the public. The morning starts with the lower ranking wrestlers practicing in the stables, and gradually the higher ranking wrestlers will join in. See their powerful moves and exercises during their practices as they prepare for their next tournament. Enjoy a little chat with the sumo wrestlers after and take photos with them!

Cancellation Policy

  • Any cancellations made between 15 business days (18:00 local time) to 3 business days (18:00 local time) prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 20% of the total amount.
  • Any cancellations made between 3 business days (18:00 local time) to 2 business days (18:00 local time) prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 50% of the total amount.
  • Any cancellations made after 18:00 local time, 2 business days prior to the activity will be subject to a charge of 100% of the total amount.

Check In/Pickup Location Details

  • If you wish to meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel, the hotel must be within a 30-minute walk from the JR Osaka station. An additional charge may be needed if your hotel is out of this range.

Restrictions

  • Children 12 years old and above can participate in this activity.
  • This activity is not wheelchair accessible.
  • Guests using crutches, walking sticks, walkers, etc. are not permitted to participate in this activity.
  • People with mobility issues are not permitted on the tour. Guests will be asked to sit down on the tatami or the wooden floor with a flat cushion for a couple hours in the sumo stable. Chairs are not available.
  • In case the stable needs to accommodate as many visitors as they can, they may ask you for cooperation to wait at the entrance of the stable until other groups arrive. Also, there may be a case where your private tour guide will be requested to be temporarily absent during the training session.

Additional Notes

  • Fees for public transportation are included. However, for the use of taxis or hired cars there will be additional charges.
  • Food, drinks, drop-off transportation and personal expenses are not included in the tour fare.

Requirement(s) - other

  • Please keep in mind the following rules during the visit: - A sumo stable is not a tourist facility. Sumo wrestlers train very hard and seriously.Please make sure to show respect to the stable master and wrestlers. - Please watch the training quietly and do not walk around the stable. - Please be quiet in the stable. Even whispering may disturb the wrestlers. - Do not stand in the ring or on the sandy ground.
  • - At the entrance of the stable, please take off your shoes. Then sit cross-legged on the floor. Don't stretch your legs toward the ring. It is considered impolite to show the soles of your feet to the wrestlers. - Please take off your hat and sunglasses. - Do not eat, drink, or smoke inside the stable. - You can take photos during the training, but do not stand or move about. Please do not use flash or cameras with loud shutters.
  • - Once you start watching the training, you are supposed to stay until the wrestlers finish their training. So please be sure not to leave the stable during the training.
